"At that moment, I thought the wisest thing to do was to play along. I would pretend everything was fine: that a ridiculous piper named Hamelin had actually been in New York in 1984. Then, once we were back to the street, to the surface, returned to the world, I would never see her again. After all, madness coexists with life in creepy ways in this city". (Music for Rats)

Case File:
Music for Rats
During the summer of 1984, unofficial reports began circulating about the presence of an unidentified musician moving through the streets and tunnels of New York. Recovered documents suggest that, amid the rat crisis affecting the city at the time, Mayor Ed Koch may have authorized a confidential operation to locate and recruit an individual known only as “The Flautist.”
Decades later, Ariel—a South American travel writer—discovers a series of forgotten letters, classified files, and incomplete testimonies hidden within the New York Public Library. What at first appears to be little more than an unfounded urban legend gradually begins to reveal disturbing connections between disappearances, subterranean melodies, and altered city records.
The recovered archives suggest that the subject did not belong to any official immigration registry. No confirmed name exists. No known address. No conclusive photographic evidence. Some testimonies claim he came from Europe. Others insist he had always been hidden beneath the city.
The investigation remains open.
