Escalona successfully presents Maybe Manhattan in Chile

Presentación en Artistas del Acero-Concepción

During the hot Chilean summer, Esteban Escalona performed his most recent work, Tal vez Manhattan (Five Points, 2024), in Concepción, Puerto Varas and Santiago.

In Concepción, his hometown, his book caused a lot of excitement in the local press. He was invited to the morning show Nuestra Casa on Channel 9 and to the University of Concepción Radio on the programs "Panorama Cultural Informativo" (directed by Sergio Morales) and Alma Matter (produced by Cristian Martínez). He was also interviewed in the Diario Concepción newspaper, all of which motivated a massive attendance at room 100 of the Artistas del Acero cultural center on January 15, where together with local poet Agustín Benelli, they presented the book of literary chronicles about New York.

On January 17, Escalona arrived in the southern city of Puerto Varas to perform at the Molino Machmar Art Center. El Heraldo Austral conducted an in-depth interview about the different activities that Escalona carried out in the city, including holding a free literary workshop for writers in the city's public library.

Finally, Tal vez Manhattan was presented at a private event at Justo Sastrería, located in Barrio Italia. Along with him was the Editor of Five Points Publishing (New York), Hans Stange, and the translator of the same publishing house, Aurelie Brambilla.

Tal vez Manhattan is a book of 22 literary chronicles in which Escalona shows us aspects of the city and the people who live in the Big Apple. In his chronicles, Escalona tells us about his city, the one he observes according to his own experiences, many of them very extreme and full of ups and downs. Tal vez Manhattan can be purchased on Amazon, where the 3rd edition of his first book Ciudad Capital (Five Points, 2022) is also available.

"We stepped out of the alley and sat on the curb. We watched the people, the rain. I pulled out some American Spirits. I lit her cigarette, and her face lit up in the drizzle, accompanied by the fading melody of Miles Davis drifting out from the bar. There was something so compassionate in her expression that all I could do was take a drag and exhale the smoke toward the sky, while she, with an indifferent gaze, watched the city’s nighttime joy unfold.
